2021
House Paint on Brick
7000mm x 2100mm
Rosins Lookout Mural was created as part of the Regeneration Project, an initiative designed to support healing in the wake of the bushfires that deeply affected the Beechmont community. For Tervo, the wall carried unusual personal weight. His family has been closely connected to Beechmont for decades, and both of his grandparents’ ashes were scattered into the mountain winds just metres from the site. Although he has not lived on the mountain himself, the project gave him a way to honour that connection while creating space for his mother, and the broader community, to reflect, heal and celebrate place together.
The mural was painted alongside his mother and in the presence of a strong local community. Rather than trying to depict the trauma of the bushfires directly, Tervo chose to focus on the beauty, colour and resilience that define Beechmont. The work draws on the blues of the mountain ranges and valleys, the intensity of local native flora and fauna, and the distinct atmosphere of the landscape before sunset. Each element was conceived as a tribute to the place itself and to the people who continue to care for it.
At the centre of the work is a respect for the strength of the Beechmont community. Fire is part of the ecological life of the Australian bush, but it also brings devastation and loss. What Tervo witnessed in response was mateship, generosity and endurance. The mural reflects that spirit. It is a celebration of the beauty that helps sustain a community, and of the people who continue to lift one another up and keep going, no matter what the landscape demands of them.
