Madams

‘Madams’

Matt Adams, affectionately known as “Madams”, is a much-loved figure in Brisbane’s political and professional circles. Painted mid-laughter, this portrait captures the warmth, humour and irrepressible spirit for which he is known. The work is built in vibrant acrylic over a base of long-discontinued magenta graffiti ink that bleeds through the surface, a quiet nod to Tervo’s street art roots and to Madams’s energetic presence.

Madams’ tie and bracelet, handmade by his daughter, and his wedding band are all rendered in careful detail. They point to the roles he holds most closely: father, husband and family man. For all his professional success, Madams remains grounded, generous and completely himself.

This portrait is both a tribute and a reflection. As Brisbane continues to grow and change, the work suggests the value of holding onto humour, heart and humility. Tervo painted the work as a celebration of a friend whose personality brings light to the people around him.
